Several years ago, while I was away on a business trip, I received a call from my eighteen-year-old son, Kyle. “Hey, Mom . . . guess what?” Without giving me a chance to hazard a guess, his excited voice continued. “I might be moving to Canada.” Now to put things into perspective, Canada is a [...]

A Heart for Orphans

I’m not sure what sparked the idea to write a story involving orphans when asked to contribute a novella for the SPLASH! boxed set with eight other international authors. Perhaps it was because my mother was an orphan. At the tender age of eight, she lost her father. Because they were a family of eleven [...]

In January this year, nine beloved international authors of contemporary Christian romance banded together to offer a limited-time collection of all-new romance novellas perfect for summer vacation reading pleasure. For those southern hemisphere readers stuck in the middle of winter, this doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy this refreshing collection of faith-filled stories. Too cold for [...]

“Are you going to Beauty for Ashes this year?” my friend, Ruth, asked. As did Ann, another friend, author and avid conference attendee. Aldyth, the organizer of this annual women’s conference for the past nineteen years, also presented this same question. They all wanted me there, and of course, I wanted to go. It would [...]

On 12th December 2014, we left South Africa for a month’s holiday overseas. In the weeks preceding our departure I was packing, making lists, cleaning, making lists, washing, and making lists . . . I wanted to, no, needed to be prepared. Life’s busy, so I had to give myself sufficient time to ensure nothing [...]

Finland, Hungary and Romania During mid-2012, my husband and I traveled to Finland for our youngest son, Kyle’s wedding. Thereafter, we spent ten days with new-found friends at their summer cottage in the south-eastern parts of Finland. The newly-weds joined us a week after the wedding, and a few days later, we all headed off [...]

A little (thyme) time

A little thyme time Thinking about the title for this blog post got me thinking of (and singing) an old English ballad about the Yorkshire town of Scarborough. Scarborough Fair was made popular in our time by the famous duo, Simon and Garfunkel. But, this tune with its medley of herbs—parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme—has nothing [...]

Don’t you just love it when you witness a miracle from God? Don’t you just love it when you witness a miracle from God?—especially when that display of grace and mercy is poured out on ordinary, everyday events. One such moment happened when I was planning the wedding of my youngest son. It was definitely [...]
